Summary

The Qatar Financial Centre Court ordered Gulf Insurance Group to pay Aljaber Engineering QAR 47,405 within seven days. An appellate ruling had overturned Gulf’s default judgment because the claim was improperly served and awarded Aljaber costs. Gulf’s challenge to that costs order was dismissed as wholly unmeritorious. Aljaber sought QAR 192,861, which Gulf disputed on evidential, proportionality and representation grounds. The Registrar assessed costs under principles requiring them to be reasonably incurred and reasonable in amount, considering proportionality and the status of Aljaber’s seconded consultant solicitor.
