October 05 2025

On behalf of The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre, we express our heartfelt condolences on the passing of our Esteemed Judge Sir Peter Cresswell, who passed away on 10 September 2025 at the age of 81.

We wish to extend our utmost condolences and sympathies to the Judge family and to have the strength and courage to withstand their loss.

Sir Peter Cresswell died on 10 September 2025 at the age of 81. He was a leading Queen’s Counsel, specialising in banking and financial law and practising from 3VB chambers in London. He served as Chairman of the Bar of England and Wales in 1990. He was appointed a judge of the London Commercial Court and served between 1991 and 2008, and from 1993-94 he was the Judge in charge. He was one of the founding editors of the Encyclopedia of Banking Law. Following his retirement from the Bench of England and Wales, he was appointed as a judge of the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre. In his later years, he built up a practice in the growing field of mediation, where he had a strong reputation in conciliating cases, an outcome he believed was in the interests of all concerned.
