The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (‘QICDRC’) has established a clerkship program to assist prospective lawyers with gaining an insight into the legal world, personal and professional development, and obtaining professional contacts.

Recent graduates who have completed a law degree and who wish to obtain a deep understanding of the practicalities of legal practice, along with judicial decision-making and the correlation between the two.

Clerkships will usually last for around three months, and clerks will sit within the Registry team, conducting work that is centred around the core business of the QICDRC.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Clerks will be expected to undertake tasks that are typically undertaken by junior members of Registry staff. These may include the following:

  • Answering queries relating to the Court, Regulatory Tribunal and ADR processes.
  • Analysis of active cases and drafting bench memoranda on cases for the benefit of the Registrar and/or the judges.
  • Keeping a log of directions and deadlines to ensure that parties adhere to the timescales set by the Court.
  • Assistance with ensuring that cases are fully ready for hearings.
  • Taking notes during hearings as appropriate.
  • Conducting legal research as required.
  • Assistance with projects as required.

Clerks will be under the direct supervision of the Registrar, and will have regular meetings with the Registrar throughout the course of the clerkship.

Clerks will be expected to be present at the QICDRC during court hours for the duration of their clerkship (08.00-16.00).

How To apply

Send a cover letter addressed to the Registrar along with a CV ( Emails should bear the following subject hearing: “Application for Clerkship – [NAME]”.

The cover letter should explain why the individual wishes to undertake a clerkship at the QICDRC, and how this might fit into their prospective career plans. Cover letters should be no longer than 1 page of A4, and CVs no longer than 2 pages of A4.

Successful applicants will be contacted by a member of the Registry team to arrange the details of the clerkship. All clerks will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to commencing their clerkship.
