The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) is a global hub of excellence for the practice and profession of alternative dispute resolution with a membership of 16,000 people. In December 2017, the Court signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. The MoU calls for the development of training programs in arbitration, mediation and adjudication to promote alternative dispute resolution in Qatar.

As a Strategic Alliance Partner, Lexis Nexis’s partnership with QICDRC aims to raise legal awareness, empower the legal community and increase access to legal information.

Qatar Lawyers Assocation

Qatar International Court signed a new partnership with the Qatar Law Association. The partnership aims to enhance legal awareness in the community and serve to develop the legal profession. The two parties will work together to organize legal workshops and courses, with a focus on providing opportunities for lawyers and legal practitioners. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two parties will act as an institutional platform for further cooperation in the future. This partnership is a significant step forward in the effort to improve legal education and knowledge.

Commercial Court of England and Wales

In June of 2023, the Court signed a Memorandum of Guidance with the Commercial Court of England and Wales. The purpose of this MOG is to set out guidelines for the procedures for the enforcement of money judgments that require one person to pay a sum of money to another person. The cooperation defined by this MOG is expected to provide mutual guidance on the two parties’ respective laws and judicial processes, to improve public perception and guidelines.

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) is the world’s leading institution devoted to international investment dispute settlement. The ICSID has administered the majority of all international investment cases since its establishment by the Executive Directors of the World Bank back in 1966.

ICSID entered into an Agreement on General Arrangements with QICDRC in June 2019. The agreement includes the possibility of holding ICSID hearings at QICDRC’s facilities, reinforcing ICSID's truly global presence and services as well as to enhance knowledge sharing on arbitration, conciliation, and other methods of dispute resolution.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Law

The Court signed a three-year agreement with HBKU’s College of Law, launching a ‘QIC-HBKU College of Law Lecture Series’ on topics related to international dispute resolution, substantive principles of commercial and business law, and QICDRC-specific legal applications, in addition to joint conferences, colloquia, workshops, and regular guest lectures.

International Consortium of Court Excellence (ICCE)

In 2019, the Court successfully adopted the ICCE framework, thereby delivering scalable and sustainable change for a holistic improvement to the quality of court services in Qatar.

The Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts (SIFoCC)

The SIFoCC has published a Memorandum on 'Delivering Justice during the Covid-19 pandemic and the future use of technology’, which explores the ways in which fair and open justice can be maintained during the pandemic and notes the range of technologies being utilised by courts around the world, including the Qatar International Court. The SIFoCC was established in 2017 and aims to bring together the world's commercial courts in a forum that takes place every 12-18 months. The Qatar International Court has been a member of SIFoCC since its inception.

Qatar University - College of Law (LAWC)

In February 2016, the Court signed an agreement with LAWC to establish a collaboration on legal and judicial training, professional development, professional development programmes, subsidiary courses as well as joint conferences, symposia, seminars, workshops, and research projects. The Court and LAWC have agreed to cooperate on providing internships and training to students.

Sir William Blair Chair in Alternative Dispute Resolution

The Sir William Blair Chair in Alternative Dispute Resolution was established at Qatar University’s College of Law under the auspice of the Court. The objective of the Chair is to educate law students on the importance of alternative dispute resolution and the local community by supporting research, as well as hosting seminars and conferences.

Ministry of Justice’s Legal and Judicial Studies Centre

To promote legal cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the Qatar International Court, the Court signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Justice’s Legal and Judicial Studies Centre in May 2016. The partnership aims to develop training curricula, exchange legal expertise and promote joint judicial seminars in line with the National Vision 2030 to further strengthen Qatar’s legal environment.

Qatar Sports Arbitration Foundation

In March 2018, the Court signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Qatar Sports Arbitration Foundation to promote alternative dispute resolution in the sport sector. The MoU calls for cooperation to strengthen the international arbitration environment in the country and coordinate the organisation of events, seminars, training workshops and conferences on arbitration, conciliation and mediation.

Ministry of Public Health

In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the Court signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Public Health in January 2020 to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle for the Court’s employees.

The Supreme Court of Singapore

In October 2017, the QICDRC and the Supreme Court of Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for judicial cooperation and knowledge-exchange, as well as an agreement on the implementation of financial provisions between the two courts.

Mediation

The Court offers mediation services to individuals, businesses, and others, whether located in Qatar or abroad. This is a voluntary process involving an independent third party (‘the mediator’) who helps the parties reach an amicable settlement in respect to their dispute.
Arbitration

Arbitration

Through its supervisory arbitrational jurisdiction under Law No 2 of 2017 issuing the Arbitration Law in Civil and Commercial Matters, parties can elect the QICDRC as the “Competent Court” of arbitration to perform various functions in relation to interim measures, enforcement of awards and appeals.
