Summary

The QFC Appellate Division dismissed Ibrahim Al-Nasr and Ali Al-Maadeed’s application to appeal costs orders following their unsuccessful investment claims against Nexus Financial Services. It upheld approximately $250,000 in costs as reasonable and proportionate to claims exceeding $22 million, including joint liability for shared appeal work. The Court confirmed that judicial review of the Registrar’s assessment is not a fresh assessment and rejected attempts to revisit the underlying judgments. It also discussed public-interest principles limiting second appeals to matters of wider legal importance.
